[thoughtbot is in the process of transitioning to benefits administered fully by Remote. This change is occurring in phases over the next few months. There will be frequent updates to this page.]
Benefits vary by country in accordance with each country's employment laws. This page serves as an overview of benefits for Mexico. The Employer of Record for Mexico, Remote, can provide additional details on the benefits that they administer (denoted below with *).
In addition to location-specific benefits, Shared Benefits are available to all team members.

Annual Leave/Vacation Time*
The annual leave policy can be found in the Remote Employee Handbook for Mexico. Your annual leave entitlement can be found in your employment contract.
Sick Time*
Beginning on August 1st, you will now follow Remote’s sick time policy. Please refer to the Remote Employee Handbook for Mexico for more details. Time off should be recorded in both Remote and Rippling.
Parental Leave*
All thoughtbot team members are eligible for both paid and unpaid parental leave after the birth or adoption of a child. The paid and unpaid leave can be combined for up to 6 months (counted as 26 straight weeks regardless of holidays) of total time off and must be completed by the 1st birthday or 1-year adoption anniversary. In some locations, team members are eligible for more time off. thoughtbot ensures 6 weeks 100% paid parental leave for all non-birthing parents and 12 weeks 100% paid parental leave for all birthing parents. Public holidays are not additional paid days during any part of parental leave. In locations with their own system for paid leave, thoughtbot’s policy runs concurrently with the local system.
In Mexico birthing parents can take up to 12 weeks of paid leave: 6 weeks can be taken before birth, and 6 weeks after birth. The post-birth leave runs concurrently with 12 weeks of thoughtbot birthing parent leave. This means a birthing parent in Mexico receives 6 weeks of paid leave before birth, and 12 weeks of fully paid leave after birth. They can take a total of 6 months off.
Bereavement Leave
Team members may take up to 5 paid days off anytime someone close passes away. This includes pregnancy loss. We understand the deep impact that death can have on an individual or a family. If you need more than 5 days off, you can also use your accrued paid time off or unpaid time off.
Compensation*
Team members receive an additional 25% of their daily rate as Vacation Premium for the first 14 days of vacation. Team members also receive a Christmas Bonus of 15 days of their base salary before the 20th day of December each year.
Payroll Cycle*
All payments are processed through Remote. Payments are made in equal semimonthly installments, payable in arrears. Any bonuses, stipends, and expenses reimbursements are added to the paychecks. The cut off dates for submitting and approving expenses for the semimonthly paychecks are the 7th of the month and the 21th of the month, respectively.
Notice Period*
There is no legally enforced notice period in Mexico. Similar to other countries with no notice requirements, at least 2 weeks' notice is appreciated.
