Benefits vary by country in accordance with each country's employment laws. This page serves as an overview of benefits for Brazil. The Employer of Record for Brazil, Remote, can provide additional details on the benefits that they administer (denoted below with *).
In addition to location-specific benefits, Shared Benefits are available to all Team members.

All holidays are determined by the Employer of Record and may vary by year.
Holidays are set up in Hub and Rippling for everyone.
Annual Leave/Vacation Time*
Beginning on your anniversary date on or after July 1, 2026, you will now follow Remote’s annual leave policy. Please refer to the Remote Employee Handbook for Brazil for details.
Annual leave reservations should be made in both Remote and Rippling.
Time off lasting 2 weeks or less, and scheduled at least 30 days in advance, does not require approval. Otherwise, time off must be approved. See the permission and tracking section for more on how to request time off.When you are out unexpectedly, you will generally make up lost client time and miss investment time that week.The country-specific parental leave benefit information may not be up to date. If you are expecting, please get in touch with the People Team (benefits@thoughtbot.com) so we can get the latest details for leave length and pay. This is a required step for the People Team to help plan your leave maximizing both thoughtbot and local parental leave benefits.Taking the leave intermittently or changing leave dates after it's scheduled requires approval from your Managing Director (consulting teams) or manager (non-consulting teams). In Brazil birthing parents are entitled to 120 calendar days of leave at 100% their regular salary.
thoughtbot ensures 6 weeks 100% paid parental leave for all non-birthing parents.
Bereavement Leave
Team members may take up to 5 paid days off anytime someone close passes away. This includes pregnancy loss. We understand the deep impact that death can have on an individual or a family. If you need more than 5 days off, you can also use your accrued paid time off or unpaid time off.
Marriage Leave*
Team members are entitled to three consecutive days of paid leave when they get married.
Medical Insurance*
Medical insurance is available through SulAmérica.
Compensation*
Team members are entitled to a 13th-month bonus. This is an amount equal to one month's salary which is paid out to team members in two parts in November and December. Team members also receive a vacation premium paid at 1/3 of their regular pay.
Collective Bargining Agreemeent (CBA)*
All our team members in Brazil are part of a union. The CBA determines the annual salary increase amount in Brazil, which goes into effect retroactively on January 1st of each year.
Meal Card*
Team members receive an amount determined by the CBA paid in advance to their VR Meal Card. In 2022, for example, it was set to R$30.00 per workday (22 days/mo).
Childcare Benefits*
Team members with children aged 0 to 5 years are eligible for monthly childcare allowance after parental leave ends, and once required documents are submitted to Remote. The amount is determined by the CBA each year. In 2022, for example, it was set to up to R$274.59/mo.
Payroll Cycle*
All payments are processed through Remote. Payments are made in equal semimonthly installments, payable in arrears. All bonuses, stipends, and expenses reimbursements are added to the final paycheck of the month. The cut off date for submitting and approving expenses is the 10th of the month.
Notice Period*
The details of your notice period can be found in your Remote contract. The standard notice period for Brazil is 30 days.
