What is thoughtbot Open Summit
thoughtbot Open Summit is a free, virtual, full day of Open Source hacking that will happen on October 25th, 2024. Hosted by 10+ thoughtbot developers from around the world, it will run from 9:30 am to 9pm UTC.
By joining us, you will:
- contribute to Open Source with maintainers of Administrate, Belt, FactoryBot, and more.
- get insights about Open Source and Tech by watching talks
- get a chance to win a T-shirt
Open Summit Schedule
There will be 4 different project tracks where we’ll set up a development environment for the project, work on real issues, and discuss everything Open Source. thoughtbotters will also give three different talks throughout the day.
Track 1: Administrate
Administrate is a Rails engine that helps you put together a super-flexible admin dashboard.
Join Nick Charlton and Svenja Schäfer, both Development Team Leads at thoughtbot.
When: 9:30 am UTC - 3:30 pm UTC
Track 2: Belt
Belt is a CLI for starting a new React Native Expo app and will even keep your pants secure as you continue development. It’s like Suspenders, but for React Native.
Get reactive with Diego Oliveira, a Senior Developer, and Oluwatomi Oluwafemi Alu, a Developer, at thoughtbot.
When: 9:30 am UTC - 3:30 pm UTC
Track 3: FactoryBot
FactoryBot is a library for setting up Ruby objects as test data.
You’ll hack with Sarah Lima and Silumesii Maboshe, both Senior Developers at thoughtbot.
When: 9:30 am UTC - 9:00 pm UTC

Tech and Open Source talks
Besides hacking with maintainers, we’ll be hosting three talks related to Open Source throughout the day. The talks will be given by Aji Slater, Development Team Lead, Silumesii Maboshe, and Stefanni Brasil, Senior Developer.
