Diversity, equity, and inclusion are still important

Chad Pytel

While others move away from DEI initiatives, we want to once again stress our steadfast commitment to working to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion within the company and beyond.

Others have recently shown their willingness to compromise on those values.

We will not.

We believe that we maximize our ability to take on any project, make products better, and our business more successful by having a diverse team who can bring their different experiences and perspectives together to solve problems.

The facts are on our side.

Some teams are comfortable having the loudest voices leading the way and believe that in order for one person to succeed, another needs to fail.

We are not one of those teams.

We believe everyone should have the opportunity to thrive professionally and personally, and that an inclusive environment where everyone can succeed is best.

As we navigate our complex world, we sometimes come into contact with people who do not match our values. Sometimes this is with the products and open source we use, and sometimes this is with our clients and potential clients.

With our clients and potential clients it’s important to establish a shared understanding of each other’s values. If we identify that there might be a conflict between our values, we actively work to resolve that concern. The potential client might show us we’re incorrect or shift to align with our values. At the very least, we both come to understand each other and the consequences of our values and choices.

In some cases, we’re able to resolve or dismiss the conflict. In other cases, we determine after discussion and exploration that there isn’t a direct conflict with our values as a company, but team members can choose to opt-out of working with that client. In this way we’re able to find ways to balance our values with business realities.

We remain committed to DEI, not only as a moral imperative, but because having a diverse team with different experiences and perspectives doesn’t hinder productivity. It makes us more successful.
