Ferdia Kenny in Ireland

Running a product design sprint shouldn’t feel like you need a sprint to prepare for it. That’s why we’re excited to release our free Product Design Sprint Template in FigJam. It’s not revolutionary, but it saves you the hassle of creating a schedule of exercises and preparing a shared whiteboard so that you can dive right in and start sprinting with confidence and clarity.

Why it is helpful

Design sprints are powerful, but they can be overwhelming to orchestrate. Between gathering the right stakeholders, structuring activities, and keeping everyone aligned, sprint facilitation often becomes a logistical challenge before you even begin.

thoughtbot’s template reduces that friction. We have a pre-built schedule of proven exercises and an easy-to-follow board that leverages FigJam’s real-time collaboration features so remote and hybrid teams can participate fully in your sprint.

The guide focuses on Days 1-3 of the sprint:

  • Day 1: Understand - Map the problem space, align on goals and get expert insights
  • Day 2: Diverge - Generate a wide range of potential solutions
  • Day 3: Converge - Pick your favourite aspects of all the possible solutions and stich them together into a single, cohesive flow.

How to use it

  1. Start by making edits to the schedule to add the right date, the name of your company and so on.
  2. Export the schedule into a single PDF and share it with all your sprint participants. Advanced planning is always helpful and appreciated!
  3. When it comes time to start your PDS, simply dive into the template and start making changes directly to the board. It is that simple. Happy sprinting!
