We've always found the Ruby community to be one of the most welcoming,
diverse, brilliant and newcomer friendly groups around. Any chance
to meet new #rubyfriends (it's a thing), learn about new developments in the
ecosystem and grow our skills as rubyists is one we won't pass up.

[Ruby Central](https://rubycentral.org/) puts on the two large tentpole events
of the discerning rubyist's social calendar: [RailsConf](https://railsconf.org/)
and [RubyConf](https://www.rubyconf.org), will be held this year in Detroit and
Chicago respectively. You'll usually be able to say hello to a thoughtbotter or
two there, but 2024 is exciting because so many regional conferences are
reappearing after a bit of global hibernation. (thanks, 2020)

Regional conferences can usually be more community-specific events. Emphasizing
locally relevant content and highlighting local innovators and peers make them
fantastic opportunities for first-time speakers, or folks that might not have
the leeway to travel as much or as far, adding new voices and perspectives to
make the Ruby community stronger and better for us all.

Regionals, because attendees are drawn from nearby, can be more conducive to 
fostering long-lasting connections that continue to be fulfilling
long after the talks and workshops have ended. Intimate discussions and
meaningful networking are personal experiences that can often be lost in the
crowd at larger events. Truly, the best conference is the friends we made
along the way.
